Here at Blow Me Down Trails, we have a long history of
serving our members and the community. The first ski club was formed in
1973 and in 1977 Blow Me Down Ski Club was formed. The first lodge was constructed
near Lundrigan Drive in 1983.
1973
- The Corner Brook Ski Club gains a nordic skiing branch.
- A small group of multi-terrain skiers associated with the Alpine club
started a nordic branch.
- This group met on weekends for nordic outings in the forest and back-country.
1977
- Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club formed as a seperate entity from
the Corner Brook Ski Club
- The club hosted the Atlantic Cross Country Ski Championship in the
forest and on logging roads
1978
- Blow Me Down jackrabbit program began on Blow Me Down Golf Club's
fairways
- This was one of the first jackrabbit programs in the country
1980
- Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club membership continued to grow as
members skied on woods roads and golf fairways
1983
- Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club membership continued to grow as
members skied on woods roads and golf fairways
- The first Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club lodge (present locker
room) was built above Lundrigan Drive by entusiastic members
1984
- The trail network commenced with trails distancing 0.5km, 1km, 2.5km
and 5km
1986
- Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club hosted the Newfoundland Winter
Games cross country ski championship
1989
- The wilderness gazebo was built with the assistance of the HRSDC JCP
program
- The Moose Run trail was cut in preperation for the Newfoundland and
Labrador Marathon
1990
- Commencement of the annual Ye Olde Christmas Race (regular nationally
sanctioned provincial race)
1991
- Blow Me Down was studied by then-president of Cross Country Canada
- Guy Lavoilette to asses national competition potential
1992
- Access road from Lundrigan Drive was constructed
1993
- A feasibility study was performed by Snow Engineering Incorporated
who then designed a concept plan for the park
- Running water was installed at the lodge
- Blow Me Down hosts the Atlantic Cross Country Ski Championship
- Trail development continued
1994
- Blow Me Down hosts the Canadian Assosiation of Disabled Skiers Championship
1995
- The racing trail system design by Olympian Pierre Harvey was built
in preparation for the 1997 Junior National Cross Country Ski Championship
1996
- The log cabin section of the lodge was constructed
- A 12 room waxing facilty was constructed in preperation for the 1997
Junior National Cross Country Ski Championship
1997
- Blow Me Down hosts the Jeep Junior National Cross Country Ski Championship
1998
- A Pisten Bulley Snow Groomer was purchased
- A 90 car parking lot, a garage, and two timing facilities are built
in preperation for the 1999 Canada Winter Games
- The final lodge expansion was completed
1999
- Blow Me Down Cross Country Ski Club is used as the host venue for
the Corner Brook Canada Winter Games Cross Country Ski Championship
- A Bombardier BR180XC snow groomer was purchased and became the legacy
of the 1999 Canada Winter Games
- >Blow me down now has five full time employees
2000
- Blow Me Down hosts the Provincial Cadet Biathlon Championship
- The park brings private operators into food service and rental areas
and hires seven part-time employees
2001
- Blow Me Down hosts the Newfoundland and Labrador Ski Marathon
- 6.5 kilometers of trail lighting was installed
- The Moose Loop trail was cut, office areas were modified, reception
area and locker room were built
- The Free-ski Fridays promotion commenced
- Snowshoeing was introduced to Blow Me Down
2002
- Mountain bike trails were developed and constructed
- The trail signage project began
- The workshop, stage, and wax area were built and the basement of the
lodge was air sealed
2003
- Blow Me Down hosts the newfoundland Midget Cross country Ski Championship
- Blow Me Down hosts the first Atlantic CANSI ski instructors level
3 and 4 certification course
- Blow Me Down hosts the Newfoundland and Labrador Biathlon Championship
- Mountain bike trail construction continues
2004
- Blow Me Down hosts the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Cross
cOuntry Ski Championship
- Modifications to Moose Return and Biathlon Range were completed
- Blow Me Down after school ski league commences
- The park assumes the trade name Blow Me Down Trails and reaches a
record high of nearly 800 member
2005
- Blow Me Down hosts the Atlantic Cross Country Ski Championship
- The park purchased 50 sets of ski equipment for the grade 4 ski program
- The signage project continues, upgrades to base lodge and wilderness
gazebo continue and improvements are made to snowshoe trails
- Blow Me Down now has 19-23 employees
