Dear Members,

Time quickly slips bye and here we are approaching our hosting the 2010 Canadian National Masters here at Blow Me Down Trails.

Many of you have been involved in the planning and organizing of this event and many more will help by volunteering your time to ensure we host the country and run another successful event here at our club.

Attached you will see a schedule of events for the week long event. There will be four race days Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Races will start at 11:00 am each day and we are expecting participants from all over the country as well as many local skiers.

Some trails will be closed during the races which start at 11 am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and all trails will be closed on Saturday March 13th until the end of the race approximately 2 pm.

We apologize for any inconvenience but hosting big race events like this one, gives the club a big financial benefit in legacy items we receive to host these type of events. Our trail lights and big groomer were legacy items as the result of the Canada Games. This year’s race will see a total of over $30,000.00 of legacy items like the new snowmobile for grooming and the big screen monitors and new computers we see in our lodge. All these items are a direct result of hosting this national race as well as extra project workers etc. Service Canada and HRLE are generously suppling us with workers, materials and equipment that will increase the ability of the club to give you, the members , the best ski club we can.

We hope you will come up and watch some of these races during the next week, or better still come out and volunteer or compete. There’s still time to register to ski and even sign up to volunteer. Let’s show the rest of Canada the wonderful fun that can be had here at Blow Me Down and that we Newfoundlander's truly know how to have a good time and fun while enjoying nature and the wonderful sport of cross country skiing and of course our own gem we call Blow Me Down Trails.

Sincerly
Shawn Leamon
Area Manager

Trappers Tent Visits BMD 2010

Posted: January 21, 2010

The Trappers Tent is located on "Trappers Hill" along the Sleepy Hollow trail. This is a traditional NL Trappers/winter hunting Tilt. Was made in the Old Davis Inlet, Labrador in 1982-83. Gord & Marion Casey have had this tent at this location for a number of years now. The Tent has a small cast iron wood stove, spruce/fir bough floor.

Anyone interested in going there for a visit where they plan to light the fire, etc., should first give Gord Casey a call...(639-7986), or contact through email at: gordcasey@yahoo.ca
